Procedures such as laminectomies require addition of wire to confer some stability to the vertebrae to prevent trauma as healing occurs. This particular cutter is specifically designed for use with delicate wires. It features tungsten carbide jaws and are capable of cutting hard wire up to a diameter of 0.7 mm.

This instrument features slightly rounded handles which makes it easy to hold and operate manually and is a traditionally utility poliers with adjustable jaws. The blunt jaws prevent breakage and splintering of the wire and allows for increased pressure to reshape it to the appropriate shape. Wires can be used to approximate fractures or can be inserted through skin and bone to provide traction on the bone.

Many different neurosurgical and orthopedic procedures require the insertion of wire to give the areas additional stability and this cutter can be used to clip these at the desired length. Not only can this instrument be used to trim wire but also surgical pins. Fracture repair and other bone repair surgeries has to be set with pins that also need to be trimmed using this instrument. This instrument is available in two designs: stainless steal or tungsten carbide both of which can cup up to a diameter of 2.0 mm.
