Many orthopedic procedures such as repair of fractures or insertion of support after laminectomy procedures require the use of wire or pin. These added support confer additional stability to the bone and increase the speed of healing while reducing the damage done by trauma. This particular instrument can be used to insert, remove and reshape wires and pins as they are needed. Many procedures require the placement of a wire to hold something together or to give some temporary stability while the body heals.

This wire can be used for temporary fixation in some procedures thus giving support through the healing process and then can be removed. This instrument features slightly rounded handles which makes it easy to hold and operate manually and is a traditionally utility poliers with adjustable jaws. The blunt jaws prevent breakage and splintering of the wire and allows for increased pressure to reshape it to the appropriate shape. Wires can be used to approximate fractures or can be inserted through skin and bone to provide traction on the bone.
