This gouge is designed similarly to a chisel but the blade portion features a curvature to it allowing it to be used to scoop up segments. The opposite end of this gouge has a rounded, flat end that can be used with a mallet to increase the driving force to effectively pierce through bone. Osteotome offer significant advantages over drilling because they do not generate heat which can be damaging and also offer an increased level of tactile sensation. This instrument is available in a straight profile at twelve different lengths from 2.0 mm to 24.0 mm in 2 mm increments or in a set of nine. This instrument is also available in a curved profile in seven different lengths from 2.0 to 14.0 mm in 2 mm increments.
