This instrument is double-action and is slightly curved which allows the jaws to remain in alignment with the bony area it is being used upon while keeping the handle effectively out of the plane of surgery. Also the jaws are slightly scoop shaped which gives this instrument a unique way in which it can cut and reshape bone. It is available in six different jaws widths ranging from 3.0 – 8.0 mm in 1 mm increments making it well suited for any particular procedures or maneuver.

It is specifically designed for used in procedure involving the spinal cord and its vertebrae. In a laminectomy the vertebral arch is removed by clipping it on either side and freeing that segment of the individual vertebrae. This rongeur features a duckbill profile that allows it to comfortably access the vertebral laminae and clip them without causing damage to the surrounding tissue areas.
